"Preserve and cherish this Pale Blue Dot."
This quote is inspired from the Pale Blue Dot photograph of earth taken Feb 14 1990 by NASA's Voyager 1 at a distance of 3.7 billion miles (6 billion km) from the Sun. The image inspired the title of scientist Carl Sagan's book Pale Blue Dot. A Vision of the Human Future in Space in which he wrote, "Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us." Voyager 1 was instructed to turn around and take one last image of Earth before it left or galaxy to head off into uncharted territory. My print was created to highlight or fragile ecosystems, in particular that of the freezing North and South poles. It depicts an Eskimo child from the Holman Island, off the extreme north of Canada, a very harsh and fragile environment. All we know and have is on this very small blue dot. We have to cherish and preserve the fragile ecosystems we have. We have to love nature more.
